I heard it was done really well. If you missed it, the show will also air on Feb. 28 at midnight and March 3 at 1 PM (set your DVR players). The trail is a hike where every million years is one meter. There are brass plaques every 10 million years. Here is his itinerary for the trip:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;Itinerary:  Holbrook Evaporite Karst Field Trip, April 9-11, 2010&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Day 1, Friday, April 9th: (OPTIONAL, but Petrified Forest is also underlain by Permian evaporites and has dissolution/collapse features of interest, plus the silicified wood – our State fossil! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rendezvous in Holbrook @ 0915 at  McDonald’s (Exit 286). Driving time from Prescott is ~3 hours (195 miles via Ash Fork and I-40). Those not wanting to leave Prescott @ 0600 can find numerous motels and restaurants in Holbrook for overnight on Thursday.&lt;br /&gt; Depart Holbrook @ 0930, heading to south entrance of Petrified Forest via Highway 180 and arriving PFNP ~1000. Numerous stops and side hikes during the day, arriving north Park Visitor Center ~1600 (see separate summary for PFNP). Park closes @ 1800; remainder of day can be spent at Visitor Center or Gift Shop. Return to Holbrook via I- 40, then to Snowflake.&lt;br /&gt; Overnight accommodations can be secured at Fools Hollow State Recreation Area (camping) on the North side of Show Low, or at Comfort Inn, 2055 S. Main St., Snowflake (928-536-3888). Other Snowflake motels and B&amp;Bs are also available – at lesser and greater cost. Alternatively, Holbrook accommodations can be secured for both nights.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Day 2, Saturday, April 10th: (PRIMARY TRIP) (See separate summary AND trip road log)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rendezvous @ 0930 at intersection of Highways 277 and 77 in Snowflake. Driving time from Prescott via Ash Fork and I-40 is 3½ hours (225 miles), enabling a 0600 Prescott departure. High clearance vehicles are strongly recommended, but 4WD is usually unnecessary unless muddy conditions exist. Back road, isolated travel is required, so bring your lunch, water, hiking boots, sunscreen, cameras, rain jackets, first aid, and other accoutrements for the whole day. Day 2 Geostops will terminate ~1700 at a remote location about 7 miles off the highway and some 25 miles from Holbrook.&lt;br /&gt; Overnight camping available at remote location with NO facilities and NO water. Numerous motels and restaurants are available in Holbrook for overnight. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Day 3, Sunday, April 11th:  Depart McDonald’s @ 0915, heading to Winslow via I-40. Head to Chevelon Canyon  and  McCauley Sinks, arriving ~1015.  Back road, isolated travel is required, so bring your lunch, water, hiking boots, sunscreen, cameras, rain jackets, first aid, and other accoutrements for the whole day. type='text'>Toroweap Point - Grand Canyon</title><content type='html'>Last week we camped at Toroweap Point and had a great View of the Uinkaret lava flow that formed lava falls when it cascaded  nearly 3000 feet into the Grand Canyon.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here is a gigapan of the flow with Lava Falls below on the river.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;iframe type='text'>Beach Boys song -- Out on the Coconino</title><content type='html'>Here is a piece from  The Geotripper Blog  for the summer on the plateau&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"In the meantime, for those of you who will be headed out to the open range this summer, especially the southwest that I love so much, I offer another bit of poetry from the archives. In honor of the Beach Boys, it can be set to the tune of "Kokomo" (thanks to our department poet laureate Vicki)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Out on the old plateau&lt;br /&gt;Far away from Modesto&lt;br /&gt;We're camped out on the Navajo&lt;br /&gt;With no place to go&lt;br /&gt;Out on the Coconino&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Arches had the wind&lt;br /&gt;Lovely was the Grand Canyon&lt;br /&gt;Cedar Mesa was the best there'd been&lt;br /&gt;It felt like Heaven&lt;br /&gt;Out on the Coconino&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Zoraster, disaster, drive a little faster&lt;br /&gt;Chinle, please hurry, we're all a little weary&lt;br /&gt;Jurassic, Triassic, we say it's just fantastic&lt;br /&gt;Colorado Plateau&lt;br /&gt;Out on the Coconino&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Just when we start to snooze&lt;br /&gt;CB crackles with Garry's news,&lt;br /&gt;"Hey guys? Can you name that rock,&lt;br /&gt;back there at six o'clock?"&lt;br /&gt;Out on the Coconino&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Her Garry! Park behind the Wells Fargo bank.&lt;br /&gt;9:15 Meet at the Museum of Northern Arizona. Regular admission is $7.00. We will split into two group with tours of the therizinosaur exhibit led by Dave Gillette, curator of geology and discoverer of the dinosaur. While one group tours the exhibit, the other group can explore the museum. From 9:15-9:45 Wayne Ranney will be available to describe the geology exhibits at the museum.&lt;br /&gt;12:00 Leave museum, take Rte 180 north and west to Red Mountain.&lt;br /&gt;12:30 Meet at Red Mountain parking lot.&lt;br /&gt;12:30-1:00 Picnic lunch.&lt;br /&gt;1:00-1:30 Hike in to Red Mountain to explore this interesting cinder cone.
