Ron Blakey Wins Honor

Ron Blakey from NAU has won the "Geosciences in the Media Award" from The American Association for Petroleum Geologists (AAPG). The award is presented for the "significant contribution of his website." Check out his impressive website at http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/~rcb7/.

Ron and Wayne Ranney have recently published Ancient Landscapes of the Colorado Plateau, one of the must-own books for our region.

Ron has both spoken to the Central Arizona Geology Club and will be leading a field trip for us this spring.

Geo Field trip to Drake Cement

Friday we had a good short Club Field trip to the Drake Cement Plant. 19 people went on the trip to see the impressive operation and the Redwall quarry where they mine the limestone which they cook into cement.

Triassic of the Petrified Forest

Bill Parker gave a Great Talk to the club last night. They have been doing detailed work on the stratigraphy of the park -- for the first time in 100 years. They have put together a really good picture of how it was in the late triassic.
